Probably another notch in my 'unpopularity hat' with this suggestion but why don't we scrap the current version on the Large Missile Launcher entirely.
In all honesty, the idea is ludicrous, and these 'Missiles' fire more like Rockets anyway. So here's my proposal. Turn these Vehicle-Mounted 'Missile' Turrets into Futuristic Versions of the SAM Launchers.
Using the Swarm Launcher Mechanics, make them fire only when you 'lock' the target, and they only lock to vehicles. This gives them a niche, avoids point bombardment, and allows the Tank Drivers to keep the damage on their Tank Turrets.
Conversely, the Small Missile Launchers could become Rocket Pods. Similar firing pattern to the 'large' missile Turret currently in play, (firing 4-6 small, low damage aoe rockets) in a dispersion pattern.

Firstly.
The reason I suggest this change is thus:
We will be getting 'Indirect Fire Weapons when we get Artillery.
Dispersion is not a 'luck' weapon. Every Weapon has some degree of dispersion (except Sniper Rifles etc.) Assault Rifles have Dispersion, HMGs have dispersion... the idea behind making them fire MULTIPLE Rockets is to have a dispersion field of fire. Which would actully make then more likely to hit than the current mechanics.
Also, why not have 'specific function' tanks? Every suit fits either a broad range OR specific function. And really, even modern day portable Missile launchers require a lock to fire. (Stingers, etc.) Also a mechanic evident in BF3 and other FPS games.
By the logic of having all Weapons multi-purpose, you'll bring back Swam SShotguns, and OP Large Missiles again just so they can be used for 'everything'.
Rails are inefficient as hitting Infantry alot of the time due to slow tracking... Blasters are much more effective with fast tracking. And high rate of fire. Missiles being repurposed to Swarms would eliminat their massive imbalances in the game, and provide them a different kind of functionality from the other turrest (both current and upcoming). I don't want every weapon to feel exactly the same... that's boring.
Yet running a Mobile Anti-Air Battery sounds like a blast to conter Dropships or other Aircraft upcoiming in the game. |

In context the 'dispersion' I was talking about was for my idea of SMALL rocket pods... to replace the current Small Missile Launchers while repurposing the Large Missile Turrets as per OP.
The idea was to remove yet another 'straight-line dumb fire' weapon from the lineup. (We have Blasters, Railguns. Soon to have Lasers (straightest line of all likely). Then you'll have indirect fire from Artillery (Mass Driver Equivalents I'd surmise) and HMG Equivalents with High Dispersion in Autocannons. So why not make the Large Missiles DIFFERENT, and not just another dumbfire weapon? |
